Trip Description

Road conditions: The notoriously difficult road conditions between Poipet and Siem Reap have greatly improved. From Poipet to Sisophon it takes 90 min for 51 km road. Between Sisophon and Bantey Chmar, the condition of the red soil road is better. From Banteay Chhmar to Samrong it takes around 1h30. The road is unpaved and can be bumpy, especially during or after the rainy season. The road to Koh Kong is partly bumpy and unpaved. From Anlong Veng to Preah Vihear, the temple can only be reach by 4WD car.

 
Itinerary
Day 1

Poipet - Sisophon - Banteay Chhmar - Sam Rong

Pick-up at Poipet Cambodia’s border.
Clients will cross border and arrange visa formalities by their own. The tour guide will await clients in front of the visa center after the Thai immigration.
Drive to Sisophon.
Lunch at local restaurant.
Head north, towards Banteay Chmar and discover this rarely visited sanctuary which was one of the capitals of Jayavarman II. It was rebuilt by Jayavarman VII and dedicated to his son and four generals who were killed in the battle repelling a Cham Invasion in 1177. Continue to Samrong

Day 2

Sam Rong - Anlong Veng - Preah Vihear - Tbeng Meanchey

Breakfast at hotel
Drive to Preah Vihear via Anlong Veng, the last strong hold of the Khmer Rouge leaders. Stop at Ta Mok’s house and Pol Pots quarter. Start to climb-up by 4 WD car to reach the majestic temple which dates back to the beginning of the 11th century. It dominates the plain from its prominent position in the Dangrek Mountains at an altitude of more than 700m and was only returned to Cambodia by a ruling of the International Court of Justice in The Hague in 1963.

Day 3

Tbeng Meanchey – Koh Ker - Siem Reap

Drive by difficult road to Koh Ker, a stunning pyramid temple nestled in lush jungle.

Continue on a good road to Siem Reap.

Day 4

Siem Reap

Breakfast at hotel
Start the day with an elephant trek from the famous South Gate of Angkor Thom to the Preah Pithu temples, passing by the fascinating Bayon temple. Visit the Bayon, Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King.
Lunch at hotel
Explore Ta Prohm and the gigantic Angkor Wat until sunset.
Dinner at a local restaurant

Day 5

Siem Reap

Visit of Banteay Srei and Banteay Samre Temples

Phnom Penh - Kirirom – Sihanoukville

Breakfast at hotel
Departure by car on a good road to Sihanoukville. Stop en route at Kirirom Nationalpark and drive to the hill station on top amid beautiful forests.

Continue to Sihanoukville, Cambodia’s beach destination.
Dinner and accommodation at hotel.

Day 9

Sihanoukville - Koh Kong

Morning at leisure
Lunch at local restaurant
Departure to Koh Kong by a very scenic road (220 km-5 hrs). On the way, cross four small ferries and experience the daily life of one of the remote place of the country.

    Remark
    Note: All clients can get a visa at the border, the visa fee is 20 USD. Passport valid for six months beyond the visit and one ID-sized photo are needed.

    During dry season speed boat operation is limited due to the low water level. In this case the journey to Phnom Penh will be done by a comfortable public coach without tour guide.

    Minor program changes are sometimes necessary, depending on road and weather conditions, as well as on room availability.
